So these past few weeks have been extremely tough for me. As many of you know I have lost 2 of my uncles within a 48 hour period (My father’s brother & mother’s brother.) It has been a roller coaster of emotions. Most of the day I feel depressed and want to cry. I have gone through all our photo albums and checked out social media for any images I don’t have. Family members have sent me pictures through text or posting them on online. Which is the 1st thing we do when loosing someone, go straight to the photos.
As a photographer, I’m thinking about how important it is to have images of your loved ones. As my family is grieving I keep thinking how can I give back to families who need a new photograph of their family or maybe want to celebrate an upcoming event, hell just something they can have the family together. Some may think a cell phone image is enough. I will be the 1st to let you know it’s not. I had several people tell me these past few weeks that they have lost 100s of images due to updates or accidentally deleting them from their phone clearing storage. Yes you can lose prints as well. I understand that, but most likely the albums get stored away in storage somewhere in the house. I have gone through 100s of images to find the right ones to tell the story of my uncle. Its been hard to sit here looking at someones life. From a child to a few days before they are gone is so much appreciated. Not only to me but to his immediate family.
While your life changes around you, it’s so nice to have a permanent reminder of your family at a specific time in your lives. The past 12 months my family has lost several people and to think as a photographer you want to be able to capture every moment possible. From Family portraits, videos, candid images, anything is worth capturing. Everything we do in life will tell a story.
